Today we got the opportunity to go church with the Forkers. We had heard a lot about Kauai Christian Fellowship, as our friends Lois & Lowell Goshow attended there for a couple years when on a mission trip to help Kauai clean up after a large hurricane struck the island in the 90s. The church had a very laid back island feel to it. The music was lead by ~12 youth all with different instruments. There were violins, guitars, piano, cello, electric guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, Kona drum, and an accordion! In one Christmas song they even mixed in some of the Beatles music which had the church swaying as they clapped. There was a traveling teacher teaching on never being too old or having too much story to be useful for kingdom assignment. He was using Simeon and Anna, when they met Joseph/Mary/Jesus in the temple to illustrate his message.
Also, while at church we met Lisa a descendant of Kauai missionaries. She had heard that we were interested in learning about the missionary history on Kauai. She told us some stories and then gave us a book on Kauai missionary history, ‘100 Years of Healing’.
After church the Forkers toured us around the Poipu area. We got to see spouting horn with them and drive through very expensive neighborhoods with incredible ocean views. We even found out that for a 2000 sq ft house, which might fit our family, the going housing prices on the island would be around $1.6million on a 40yr loan.
To end the day we went back to the beach to hang out with the turtles/seals/sunset. While we were enjoying those things, Kerry took Greg to the airport for a two week mission trip to Costa Rica. There he is going to be picking coffee beans, cooking, and doing light construction projects to help the local mountain children.
