Utah:Bryce Canyon – Hoodoo Wedoo

Funhog Hoodoos

Utah started off with a real bang. Elijah was running beside a swimming pool and slipped (this is after I had just asked him to walk). He busted his bottom lip wide open and loosened his two front teeth. As he was bleeding all over me, he was really excited to finally be loosing his teeth, just like his big sisters. As we have continued to treat and nurse Elijah’s wounds it was Sydney’s turn for adventure. Kendall talked Sydney into swallowing a large chewable vitamin, which got stuck in her throat. We prayed over Sydney and the Lord answered our prayers by allowing her to throw up the lodged vitamin which was choking her.

Time to hike up out of the canyon

On to the fun…We found a great place to camp outside of Bryce, and while we were checking in Mary, our hostess, told us about world famous pie which is in all of the European guidebooks on this area. We couldn’t resist going across the road and buying a couple of slices for breakfast in the morning. The pie turned out to be outstanding, to the point that we not only started our day with it but ended our day with it as well.
Bryce Canyon was beautiful, and the hoodoos looked like a lot of fun. Kendall kept asking if we could climb one. Since the hoodoos are made of loose dirt they will not support a person’s weight, so we were not able to rock climb. Instead we decided to hike down into the canyon to see the sights from bottom up. The trail was quite steep and all the kids did an incredible job getting down. We played with a squirrel and had a snack in the canyon. Then we started our ascent. Elijah asked if he could ride in the pack, so I put him in. Next Tirzah was ready for a ride as well. Both wound up on me as I climbed out of the canyon. It is always fun to see all the people staring as we go anywhere as a family. This was no different, as people could not believe that our family would tackle such a hike and all of us actually enjoy it. We all had a great time on the hike and were happy to get back to the top. The best part was we all got such a great workout that it was sweet dreams for everyone that night.

Beautiful photos…..amazing that you could walk up with 2 kids! I did not even see Elijah in the backpack in the first photo! It is such a great shot of all of you and….the new baby to come! Jodi, you are looking great! Love all of you and enjoyed the videos, too!

Yeah, I’m pretty tired after watching the video too.

What a neat peek into Bryce Canyon. We are planning to be in Zion in a few weeks and I was wondering if you could tell us the name of the restaurant where you got the pie. It looks absolutely yummy! We’d like to stop there if we can. Thanks so much.

Thanks. We stayed at the Bryce Canyon Pines campground, and the restaurant is across the street from the campground. Here is a link to it: http://www.brycecanyonmotel.com/bryce-restaurant.php. It’s on hwy 12 NW of the park. Enjoy your trip!!!
