California – Free Fallin’

Twice the fun

I love to introduce adventure sports to others and hear their grateful heart at getting the opportunity to experience something so different than what they are used to. Our days in the Kernville area were very rewarding for me as I got to introduce running waterfalls in a kayak to a friend, Brett Traudt, and my two oldest kids, Kendall and Chloe. Brush Creek is a kayakers disneyland as you basically fall off the side of a mountain through a series of waterfalls with two up to 25 feet high. Brett had never been in a kayak which made the experience even more fun for me. He was really a trooper as he went with the flow and did everything I asked to keep us safe as we careened down the mountain. Elijah watched us from the road and told Jodi, “Daddy is going to teach me how to do that!!!” When Kendall and Chloe’s turn came, they were all excitement. Once we were done with their run they both said it was way too short and we needed to go again. This is the prefect time to stop any adventure, so you can be sure there will be desire for the next one. The only complaint from all was the 45 degree water.

WE DID THAT???

Another bonus on our time in the mountains was the kids got to see God answer another prayer. As a family we pray to be available when someone is in need. In our remote mountain camp we got the opportunity to bless two hikers, Jax and Jeff, who were on a multi-day hike and discovered their mileage was not high enough to complete the hike in the allotted timeframe. Elijah and I were able to give them a ride back to their truck which would have been a full day’s hike via the road. Elijah loved being part of the guys and helping out someone in need. Both hikers were very thankful and Jeff even went above and beyond by helping us carry the tandem kayak (75lbs) down to the put-in for our Brush Creek adventure.
We also got the chance to try out our tent heater as the temps were in the 20s at night. It has been a life saver. We would not have been able to make it without the heater as kids get cold, and it is hard to keep them warm. Though they all get a kick out of making smoke with their mouths in the mornings.

Game On!

Rockin it with Chloe!

OK, that is just stellar. Nuts actually. I’m all for adventure, but geez, that seems pretty hard core. Thanks for sharing this, and inspiring me

Anytime Justin. I’d love to do an adventure with you. Bring the family to Arizona and I’m sure we could find something that would put smiles on everyone’s face.

I highly recommend all of you take the adventure. This is one that will go down in history with me! Brian Kept asking me if I was doing ok… he wasn’t able to see the big old “Brett Grin” on my face from the time we hit the water until we got out. I don’t know what was more sore… My body or my face!
