Adventures in Storytelling

by Funhog Family on June 27, 2011

Do you want to know one way you can become the hero in your family? It is really easy. All you have to do is become a storyteller and not a professional one either. Your kids long to hear you tell stories about your life growing up, great stories you’ve been exposed to, and stories about God’s word.  We have found that our kids learn best through stories and that telling them helps us to remember.  Not to mention, the Gospel is “the greatest story ever told,” and God uses storytelling as a primary way to impart biblical truth, moral values and godly character to each new generation.

We got the unique opportunity last weekend to hear a story from two different points of view. My sister, Amy, and her family were vacationing in California. So, our family drove over to visit with them and play at the beach for the weekend. Our life is pretty busy right now as we prepare for the 50 state challenge, but family and relationship are important to us, so we made it a priority to make the six hour drive to go be with them. We had a great time, and I was able to capture Amy’s version of a story I had told our family just days before. Enjoy a story from our childhood and let us know what story you will be telling the next time your family comes together.

Thank you for allowing me to share in this memory. It was nice to see that the stories supported each other. Now let’s get mom’s version!
